Other Types of Solar Heating Systems
When using solar heating equipment with baseboards or air handling units, there is almost always a necessity for a water storage tank. Since in such systems there is no mass floor in which to store heat, another means of energy storage, for night-time use, must be used. Water provides excellent thermal mass and is easy to work with, so it is typically used to provide such storage. A variety of storage tank configurations are available that conserve space and provide our installers with suitable piping options for each installation.
As these systems can take many shapes, they are typically custom-designed. Additional complexity results from use of heat distribution through air ducts, because heat transfer from liquid to air is inherently inefficient and requires higher fluid temperatures, higher flow rates and longer run-times for many components.
There are some manufacturers of baseboard and hydronic air-handling units offering higher heat output at lower temperatures. These units are sometimes more expensive than conventional heat distribution equipment but can reduce the investment for solar equipment installation as well as fuel costs over time.
Cedar Mountain Solar brings 60 combined years of experience in solar heating systems and is available to provide you with a solar heating solution for your home. Since systems are modular, they can be designed to grow over time as budget, environmental concerns, and other factors change.
